The hallway before was more of a square-sized room, with doors to the living room, bathroom, utility room, north bedroom, and hall closet.
We removed the hall closet and put the range in its approximate location.
Since we lost storage space by removing the closet, we added new linen cupboards on the opposite side of the hall. They fit into a niche created by the bathroom's new tub/shower unit.
The door to the north bedroom used to open into the hallway. It now opens into the bedroom. The new door is 36" - about four inches wider than the old one.
We widened doorways to the kitchen (previously the utility room) and living room.
The doorway in the before photo is 32 inches. The new opening is 48 inches.
Instead of a wasted corner in the hallway, we have kitchen cabinets. Instead of a 32" door into the utility room, we have a wide entrance into the new kitchen.
